Fimo Lacquers (or Varnishes) are manufactured by Eberhard Faber, which also produces the Fimo brand of polymer clay.
There are two types of lacquers. One is water-based, the other mineral-based. Both are available only in gloss sheen. The mineral-based lacquer is generally preferred over the water-based and is probably the favorite of the clay manufacturer-produced glazes available in the U.S. However, by volume it is more expensive than Varathane or Future, so it is not as frequently used.
Below are a few extra notes about Fimo Lacquers:
- 10 ml bottles come with brushes attached to the inside of the cap.
- Can be baked for a few minutes at 212°F (100°C) to set the varnish, dry it completely, and make it resistant to humidity.
- Thin with Nitrocellulose paint thinners to reach desired consistency. Thinning will slightly reduce glossiness.
- If varnished surface is uneven, can be sanded and buffed.
